Woonsocket School Employee Dies From Coronavirus-Related Complications

A school employee in Woonsocket has passed away due to coronavirus-related complications. 

The head of the Providence Teachers Union on Tuesday released a note of condolence.

"On behalf of all of the members of the Providence Teachers Union, our sincerest condolences to the family, friends, colleagues and loved ones of the Woonsocket school employee who passed away due to COVID," wrote PTU President Maribeth Calabro on Facebook.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this difficult time," she added. 

"This person was employed by a school, but the school where this person worked was doing distance learning," said RIDOH spokesperson Joseph Wendelken. "There is no indication that this person acquired COVID-19 in school. This individual was not a teacher and had no student contacts. This person had several very significant underlying medical conditions."

On Tuesday, state coronavirus data had not been updated for the prior day until close to 3 PM. 

RIDOH is supposed to update data daily by noon.
